Axis Educational Trust Celebrates 30th Anniversary with Gala and Talent Contest Final

North Finchley, 19 January 2025 – Axis Educational Trust marked its 30th anniversary with a spectacular Gala and Talent Contest Final at the Arts Depot, 5 Nether Street, North Finchley. The event celebrated diversity, inclusion, and the achievements of young people, with around 400 attendees enjoying a memorable evening.

The evening began with a reception prior to the main gala, setting a welcoming and celebratory tone. Distinguished guests included the Deputy Mayor of Barnet, Councillor Danny Rich, Former Mayor Councillor Nagus Narenthira, other councillors, community leaders, and the programme’s MC, Ione Brown. In his speech, Councillor Danny Rich praised Axis Educational Trust for helping put the council’s strategy into practice by providing supplementary education and mental health support to disadvantaged children. He also highlighted the evening’s talent show as a fantastic example of achievement, showing that success is possible even without the privileges that many take for granted.

During the gala, Axis Educational Trust honoured its key partners with the prestigious Partnership Excellence Awards, recognising their unwavering support and contributions:

  • Young Barnet Foundation
  • London Youth

Young people were also celebrated for their outstanding contributions to social action projects, their resilience in overcoming challenges, and their exceptional achievements.

Talent Contest Final: Showcasing Exceptional Young Talent

The highlight of the evening was the Talent Contest Final, where 11 young finalists displayed incredible talent in music, dance, and performance. The contest embodied the night’s theme: “United We Thrive, Together We Shine.
The winners of the Talent Contest were:

  • 1st Place: Imogen Macambac (Song: Rise Up)
  • 2nd Place: Sahana Nagusandar (Dance: Oneness in Duality)
  • 3rd Place: Bentley Wood Glee Club (Song: Cheetah Sisters)
  • 4th Place (Special Mention): Myla Williams (Song: Listen to Your Heart)

Winners and all finalists were awarded prizes ranging from £200 to £500. The audience also participated by voting for their favourite performance, adding to the excitement of the evening.

Renowned Judges Celebrate Talent


The panel of judges featured industry leaders, including:

  • Gina Murray: Internationally recognised actress and singer
  • Coleen Daley: TV celebrity actress and singer
  • Funda Hassan: Actress and drama teacher
  • Ali Cham: Musician and arts leader

Celebrating 30 Years and Looking Ahead


Chair of Axis Educational Trust, Hakan Gokce, reflected on the organization’s 30-year journey, highlighting its transformation from an ethnic minority initiative to a broader community service organization. He also shared the trust’s future plans, including the establishment of a new youth hub in East Barnet.

It was a night of inspiration and unity, showcasing the power of young people and the strength of community support.
