Skill-Up Youth Project - Empowering Youth for a Brighter Future

Are you 14-19 years old from a disadvantaged community in the Chatham area? Do you need extra support to excel in your exams and progress to the next stage of your life, whether it’s higher education, employment, or an apprenticeship? The Skill-Up Youth Project is here to help you achieve your goals!

About the Project

The Skill-Up Youth Project is a comprehensive program designed to provide tuition, pastoral support, advice, and educational activities to empower the youth in Medway. We understand that every individual has unique needs and aspirations. That’s why we offer a tailored teaching approach, combining online and in-person learning in our dedicated study centres.

Our curriculum is strategically designed to focus on short-term, achievable targets, ensuring maximum results. Participants may receive coaching in Level 2 functional skills or GCSE Maths and English, with periodic assessments using National Skills Tests. The program spans over 36 weeks, requiring a minimum of one term (12 weeks) of attendance.

Our Holistic Approach:

We believe in addressing the root causes of poor achievement. The Skill-Up Youth Project goes beyond functional skills training. We also focus on building confidence, self-esteem, and employability skills through mentoring and pastoral support. Participants engage in regular career and employability activities, including skills workshops, CV writing, job applications, and college applications. and interview techniques. Moreover, they receive 3 hours of one-to-one coaching throughout the year, helping them set and achieve personal targets for further education, training, work experience or apprenticeships.

The project also incorporates volunteering to enhance leadership, teamwork, and time management skills.

Empowering Role Models:

One of the key features of our project is matching participants with young, early-career, or university student mentors who serve as role models. This mentoring scheme aims to boost self-confidence, improve communication skills, encourage academic excellence, and provide a sense of direction and resilience.

Ongoing Support:

The Skill-Up Youth Project is committed to your success. When you’re ready, we’ll support you in signing up for your chosen qualification at local exam centres. If needed, our ongoing support means you can receive assistance for more than one year if you can’t complete your qualification within the first year.
